Honza Šádek, born in Teplice (*1976). “I have been working with drawing for a relatively short time, about eight years. I was drawn to drawing by a series of life events. I started drawing at a time when my life was truly at its lowest. I am self-taught and explore all techniques entirely on my own. The technique of my drawings could be compared to the ‘old school’ approach: an honest sketch, followed by inked lines, with colors created using colored pencils. This is largely due to the limited resources I had when I was starting out—I really only had basic tools at my disposal.
I most enjoy illustrating my feelings, emotions, and attitudes. I devote myself to my artworks down to the last detail and work with a wide range of colors. Even when the theme of a piece is not entirely optimistic, it radiates positive energy thanks to the color combinations used.
I have held many successful exhibitions, both in Ostrava and Prague. I became the author of coloring books for children in hospitals and illustrated a children’s book in collaboration with the Thovth publishing house. I collaborate with Ostra Group and ČSAD Ostrava. One of my greatest joys is decorating children’s homes. I also focus on commissioned work. I worked for several years as an external artist for Koh-i-noor and currently continue in the same role with Faber-Castell.”
